Increase knowledge and understanding of irritable bowel syndrome.
Primary objectives
Our primary objective is a multidisciplinary approach to increase knowledge
and understanding of irritable bowel syndrome and explore treatment
strategies related to diet.
The secondary objectives are addressing the multifaceted manifestations of
IBS symptoms.
– Identify and quantify structural and functional brain connectivity signatures
and gastrointestinal motility patterns in IBS patients using advanced neuro
and abdominal imaging and the Rome IV classification criteria.
– Assess cognition in multiple cognitive domains in IBS patients and compare
with imaging and symptom scores.
– Stool samples for microbiota DNA analyses, and blood samples for
measurement of short-chain fatty acids, pancreatic polypeptide YY and
genetic profiling.
– Define phenotypes and biomarkers from our data using high dimensional
data-driven and machine learning techniques.
– Employ clinical and cognitive scores with biomarker trajectories to assess
treatment effects of low-FODMAP diet.
